Project: Pink Keyboard: A Tutorial

My keyboard came as a set with a wireless mouse and they share an adapter. They work so well and they were such a good price that my boyfriend and dad’s computers also have the same set. While the keys and function have been fine, I’ve been a little hard on the outside. My wireless keyboard which I love so much was getting a bit tragic looking.   There were splatters and smudges of paint on it that I probably could’ve gotten out and large bleached out splotches across it (from knocking over a bottle of nail polish remover) which I couldn’t, so I decided to spruce it up a bit.

There are a couple of ways you can do this: either leaving all the keys on and taping around them, or pulling the keyboard apart and popping the keys off so the painting is more thorough and there’s no chance of accidentally painting the keys.  I thought about actually painting my keys but ultimately decided against it. One way you could do that if you wanted color on them but didn’t want to obscure the numbers would be to stick the faces of the keys to some tape and then just paint the sides, I suppose. You also don’t have to do the keyboard a bright color, you could just repaint it black or grey or white, whatever the original color is if you wanted.

I’m so very sorry some of the photos for this are so terrible. One day I’ll have a real camera… and do things in the light of day. They’ve been converted to black and white so that the varying bits of blurry, pixellated mess won’t be as distracting. I’d love to also take better after pics but the keyboard is currently in Texas and I’m in Ohio.

Additionally, if taking keyboard apart:

  • small phillips screwdriver
  • q-tips
  • water/mild cleaner

‘Love Your Work’ Typography Posters | Free Printables!

There’s clutter everywhere and I think I’m starting to go a little twitchy. I’ve been doing a big furniture rearrange..and also am getting ready to paint two bookshelves, a filing cabinet, and a mobile kitchen island turned craft table plus some simple diy art if I can find some more picture frames. The local cheapy thrift store is so bare. (When I’m not doing all that I’m building homes on the Sims 3 and posting ’em up to show off. /shamelessplug)

The bookshelves are getting a chalk paint finish and I had planned to start painting the first one today but it turned out a bit too cool and windy to do it so I’m stuck inside. I don’t feel like knitting right now, and so I took a break from my first pair of socks and started making some nice little wall art.

It’s not much, just some typography. I recall seeing a photo of a workspace where there was something similar but now I can’t find the reference pic. I’m so often down on myself, especially since I do so many different types of crafts, I’m usually pretty rusty, art wise. I also couldn’t choose just one of these, so I’ll put them all up on here, probably print one off to use, then later change it out for a different one. Not a big fan of a few of them but there are others I adore.

Each poster is 8.5″ x 11″ either portrait or landscape. As far as I can recall all these fonts are alright to use for at least non-commercial stuff. Also, they’re all credited in the file names and very small on each poster itself. The header of the master list graphic is made of the fonts ‘greenbean’ and ‘english essay’. If you’re the creator and there’s a problem, let me know.  No harm meant.

All I ask is that if you share, link back here somewhere on the page.

Now, let’s see if this actually works like I mean it to. Click the pic to go to the dropbox folder. There’s also a .zip with all of them. Enjoy!  🙂

Due to circumstances beyond my control, my bandwidth is being severely throttled and therefore I’m not going to be able to post much. I’ll be back as soon as its feasible. There may be the occasional post with photos but no videos will be forthcoming for a while. Derp.

Ep. 7 White House Farm / Battle Bonnet’s Finished!

So I recorded this a few days ago (and quality is awful this time around, sorry) , remembered it was still on my phone and went to transfer it and several other things off my phone. I didn’t see it and thought it’d glitched and not recorded and got annoyed. Just now while going through photos I found it so now it’s saving/uploading while I add the rest of the pics of this post. It’s going to be a bit photo heavy. Sorry. (lol my sweater’s shoulders are pointy. I wasn’t thinking and put it on the back of a chair at a restaurant and hadn’t tried fixing it before the video) Links are after the break. Pathfinder is also below the break.

I also forgot to mention that White House Farm is completely packed this time of year. Parking, shopping and donut lines were insane. I found a few pics and they’re unceremoniously at the very end of the video.

So I think I mentioned before that Mike’s mom is deeply patriotic and inherited my (previously Mike’s before that) old ipad 1. She happened to also mention that she liked plaid so we stole the ipad back since I needed to get a game save off it anyway, and I measured it to make her a neat little carrying case. It has double stitched seams, snaps holding down both the large main pocket flap as well as the one covering the little pocket for coins/chapstick? on the back. There’s also a spot for styluses. Mike and I each picked out a fabric and together, we settled on the plaid flags and gold stars. She ended up absolutely loving it and definitely cried upon seeing it. You can click on them for larger pictures.

Ep 6: Boring with lots of links.

My hair looks awful. I can’t decide whether to cut it again or let it grown out. That in-between phase sucks. Anyway… Sorry the audio is so quiet. Be prepared, it’s a little louder at the end. Also, I’m making custom thumbnails for all the videos.. I think only this one has shown up so far as this is being written. Hopefully they’ll all come up eventually.

Links, links, so many links.

Ep 5: There is no video.

Whew. Well, after a hectic and extremely humid family reunion, a successful maternal? multi-bypass surgery, and a both boring/uncomfortable delay (5+ hours sitting in an economy class plane next to my broad shouldered boyfriend (I’m also broad shouldered, so by the end of the night both of our backs were aching from subconsciously leaning away from each other to make room. I caught myself doing it even when I was trying not to.) in a holding pattern/flying way past our destination for refueling, and then sitting on the runway waiting for the go ahead to come back to our destination) and harrowing flight through stormy weather, I’m sort of back. Well, that is to say, I’m posting now, but don’t know when I will next. I’m in Ohio now and I tend to not get on the computer as much up here. There’s always things to run around and do, fun to be had, places to go shopping, Army of Two to be played.

I don’t really have a great place to film here. I might have to try taking over the reading (tiny room full of books and a giant comfy chair, but also filled with anything else we need to store) room to do my little clips.

I’ve done a bit of knitting. I finished my reunion prize cloth packs for the random drawing prize table, the ‘red&white&blue’ one getting snatched up almost immediately and mom picking out the ‘earth&sky&water’ one soon after as her prize. That one, as far as I know, is still sitting beribboned on a dresser. They say it’s too pretty and nice to open and use. Dad chose the ribbon for the kitchen one which still amuses me and I love that pattern. Would that I had the Camera+ app on my phone before taking the pics. They still didn’t turn out badly, though.

The labels were a lot of fun to make and Pagy/Yumi helped me out a lot with layout. Thanks, girly!

After that, I finished the dragon for dad I’d been working on (only finishing right as we were pulling up at the airport to get out. The pic is awful and I won’t have a chance to get another until probably this autumn.

Also, after many many false starts, multiple needle swaps (I went from DPNs to a 16″ circular to two 24″ circulars before I was finally happy) I finished my Jayne Cobb Hat.

After that, I started a shawl. I don’t wear shawls. I wore nothing but black tshirts and jeans and now I’m getting girlier. I wear the occasional store bought knitted shrug with a tanktop but I feel too dressy doing so. A shawl seems like it’d make me feel silly. It’s glittery though. I could use it just for dressy occasions that I can’t escape.

a few flight pictures { I know people get sick of seeing these but my favourite part of flying is looking at all the clouds. It’s especially interesting when they’re spread as far as the eye can see and it looks like uninterrupted snow covered ground.
